Nor Cal SAAC
ABOUT OUR CLUB
The Nor Cal Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) is the largest regional club affiliated with the National SAAC organization. There was an unofficial NorCal SAAC that began in 1975 with Gordon Gimbel, owner of Cobra Performance, a Shelby parts store in Martinez CA. To promote the parts store, he began holding informal gatherings of Shelby Mustang and Shelby Cobra owners in nearby Walnut Creek CA at Heather Farm Park. It was simply a gathering of Shelby automobile owners who wanted to share their passion for 1962-1967 Shelby 289/427 Cobras, and 1965-1970 Shelby GT350/500 Mustangs.
In 1980 the decision was made by Shelby enthusiasts Tom Fry, Ron Tredway, Tom Georgalos, Walt Boeninger, et al, to organize a formal club in San Jose CA where members could share their common interest in these unique cars. The idea was to draw Shelby people together to share experiences and create friendships by holding formal meetings, attending car shows, having picnics, and going on group cruises in their Shelby club cars. An important aspect of these events is to network with other members to discuss how to correctly service or repair your Shelby.
Over the years the Nor Cal Shelby Club has proven to be a place where valuable information can be shared among members when it comes to participating in open track events. Experienced members can give you tips on how
to drive safely at Northern California tracks like Laguna Seca Raceway, Sonoma Raceway, and Thunderhill Raceway. It is an opportunity to exchange information concerning modifications, performance improvements, and even which garages or mechanics offer the best service in Northern California.
If you’re a Shelby guy or gal who drives a classic or current Shelby, the Northern California Shelby American Automobile Club can give you the opportunity to social connect and share knowledge with like-minded brethren
