NOR CAL SHELBY CLUB CELEBRATES 25th ANNIVERSARY
AT THUNDERHILL PARK IN WILLOWS.

San Jose, CA…. The Northern California Shelby American Automobile Club (Nor Cal SAAC) is celebrating its 25th Anniversary of its Mini-National Convention (Mini-Nats) in Willows, CA and at Thunderhill Raceway Park over the Labor Day weekend, August 29th-31st, 2008.  The National Shelby Club, commonly known as SAAC, has an annual worldwide convention every summer and the Mini-Nats is the Nor Cal region’s version of this event.  Nor Cal SAAC is the largest regional club in the nation with almost 600 members from California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington.

This year’s event will coincide with the 15th Anniversary of Thunderhill Raceway Park, the three-mile, fifteen turn road race course located on highway 162 west of Willows.  Nor Cal SAAC was involved in the development of Thunderhill Raceway and continues to be a primary supporter of the facility.  Because of the continued involvement with Thunderhill, the Nor Cal SAAC has extended the scope of their 25th anniversary event to include the City of Willows and a number of long-time establishments in the town.

This year’s Mini-Nats will include a popular-vote car show in town on Friday afternoon the 29th of August at Sycamore Park.  The car show will feature 1963-1972 Muscle Cars including many original Cobras, GT40s, and Shelby’s, plus similar replicas, Mustangs of all ages, and other Ford cars.  Local area residents are expected to enter cars into the show.  Entries are open to any Ford car or other contemporary muscle car from the ’63-’72 era.  The popular-vote car show will include awards for favorite paint, engine, interior, etc..., and overall favorite car.  Participants will receive a framed, professional photo of their car.  The show will start at 2:30 pm Friday afternoon when a local police escort will arrive at Sycamore Park with the racecars from Thunderhill Raceway. There is a $10 fee to enter a car in the show.  The show will include food, drink, music, and activities for children throughout the afternoon. Admission is free to all.

At 5 pm on Friday the local fire fighters volunteer organization will be prepare a full BBQ dinner to be served in the park. A nominal fee of $15 for adults and $5 for children will fund the dinner with all proceeds going to the volunteer fire fighters.  Tickets will be available at the park. Anyone interested in entering a car in the show or purchasing advance tickets for the barbecue can call the Willows Chamber of Commerce office (530) 934-8150.

On Saturday and Sunday close to two hundred club racecars and car enthusiasts will be on the track at Thunderhill Raceway.  All residents from the area are encouraged to come

out to the track over the weekend, look at the cars, both on and off the track, talk to the owners, and enjoy watching a Vintage Exhibition race on Saturday afternoon.  There is no admission charge to enter the track as a spectator.

A full schedule of events can be found on the Nor Cal SAAC web site at http://www.norcal-saac.org/mn/mnmain.htm.   There will be a designated parking area for spectators. The paddock area will be reserved for racecars and participants only.

Anyone interested in driving their personal car on the race track can sign up at the car show and receive special instructions and a ticket allowing them to do so.  These laps on the track for new fans will be at a controlled, maximum speed.  The parade laps will take place during the lunch hour on both Saturday and Sunday.  No special racing gear is required for those signing up for these laps around the track on Saturday and Sunday.

The City of Willows, Nor Cal SAAC, and Thunderhill Raceway Park are all working together to make this an exciting event for everyone over the Labor Day weekend.

Sycamore Park is located just south of Wood Street on the corner of Sycamore and Culver.

Thunderhill Park is located seven miles west of Interstate 5 on highway 162. For information about Thunderhill Park access www.thunderhill.com or call (530) 934-5588.
